Watermelon Margarita: The Ultimate Summer Cocktail Recipe

  • Total Time: 17 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Description

Refreshing Watermelon Margarita, perfect for summer! Made with fresh watermelon puree, tequila, lime juice, and a touch of sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups cubed seedless watermelon, chilled
  • 1 cup tequila blanco (silver)
  • ½ cup fresh lime juice
  • ¼ cup orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 2 tablespoons agave nectar (or simple syrup, to taste)
  • Lime wedges, for garnish
  • Coarse salt or sugar, for rimming the glasses (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Watermelon Puree: Cube the chilled watermelon and blend until smooth. Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve for a smoother texture (optional).
  2. Mix the Margarita: In a large pitcher, combine the watermelon puree, tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave nectar (or simple syrup). Stir well and adjust sweetness to taste.
  3. Chill (Optional): Chill the mixture for at least 30 minutes for the flavors to meld.
  4. Prepare the Glasses: If desired, rim the glasses with coarse salt or sugar.
  5. Add Ice: Fill each glass with ice cubes.
  6. Pour and Garnish: Pour the margarita mixture into the prepared glasses. Garnish with a lime wedge.
  7. Serve Immediately: Enjoy your Watermelon Margaritas!

Notes

  • For a spicy margarita, add jalapeño slices to the blender when making the watermelon puree.
  • To make a frozen margarita, blend the mixture with ice.
  • For a non-alcoholic watermelon agua fresca, omit the tequila and orange liqueur.
  • Experiment with reposado tequila for a slightly more complex flavor.
  • Use honey or maple syrup as a sweetener if you don’t have agave nectar or simple syrup.
  • Add fresh mint or basil for a refreshing herbal note.
  • Choose a ripe watermelon with a creamy yellow or orange field spot that sounds hollow when thumped.
  • Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor.
  • Adjust the sweetness to your preference.
