Experience the delightful blend of bold Thai tea leaves, sweet sugar, and creamy evaporated and condensed milk in this refreshing Thai Iced Tea. Perfectly served over ice, it’s a must-try for tea enthusiasts looking for a unique and indulgent beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons Thai tea leaves
  • 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: Star anise or cardamom for added flavor

Instructions

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil in a medium-sized pot.
  2. Remove the pot from heat and add 4 tablespoons of Thai tea leaves. Optionally, add star anise or cardamom pods for extra flavor.
  3. Cover the pot and let the tea steep for 10-15 minutes, depending on your desired strength.
  4. Strain the tea into a large bowl or pitcher using a fine mesh strainer, pressing down on the leaves to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the leaves and spices.
  5. While the tea is warm, stir in 1/2 cup of sugar, adjusting to your taste.
  6. Allow the sweetened tea to cool to room temperature. Refrigerate to speed up the cooling process if desired.
  7. Transfer the cooled tea to the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour.
  8. In a separate bowl or pitcher, mix 1 cup of evaporated milk and 1/2 cup of sweetened condensed milk until well blended.
  9. Taste the milk mixture and add more sweetened condensed milk if you prefer it sweeter.
  10. Fill tall glasses with ice cubes.
  11. Fill each glass halfway with the chilled Thai tea.
  12. Slowly pour the milk mixture over the back of a spoon into each glass to create a layered effect.
  13. Gently stir the drink before sipping, and enjoy the delightful blend of flavors!
  14. Garnish with crushed ice or a slice of lime for a refreshing touch (optional).
  15. Enjoy with Thai spring rolls, coconut sticky rice, or mango sticky rice for a perfect snack pairing.
  16. Store any leftover tea in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Stir before serving as the milk may separate.
  17. If you prefer your tea warm, gently reheat it on the stove or in the microwave.
