Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups water
- 4 tablespoons Thai tea leaves
- 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- Ice cubes
- Optional: Star anise or cardamom for added flavor
Instructions
- Bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil in a medium-sized pot.
- Remove the pot from heat and add 4 tablespoons of Thai tea leaves. Optionally, add star anise or cardamom pods for extra flavor.
- Cover the pot and let the tea steep for 10-15 minutes, depending on your desired strength.
- Strain the tea into a large bowl or pitcher using a fine mesh strainer, pressing down on the leaves to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the leaves and spices.
- While the tea is warm, stir in 1/2 cup of sugar, adjusting to your taste.
- Allow the sweetened tea to cool to room temperature. Refrigerate to speed up the cooling process if desired.
- Transfer the cooled tea to the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour.
- In a separate bowl or pitcher, mix 1 cup of evaporated milk and 1/2 cup of sweetened condensed milk until well blended.
- Taste the milk mixture and add more sweetened condensed milk if you prefer it sweeter.
- Fill tall glasses with ice cubes.
- Fill each glass halfway with the chilled Thai tea.
- Slowly pour the milk mixture over the back of a spoon into each glass to create a layered effect.
- Gently stir the drink before sipping, and enjoy the delightful blend of flavors!
- Garnish with crushed ice or a slice of lime for a refreshing touch (optional).
- Enjoy with Thai spring rolls, coconut sticky rice, or mango sticky rice for a perfect snack pairing.
- Store any leftover tea in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Stir before serving as the milk may separate.
- If you prefer your tea warm, gently reheat it on the stove or in the microwave.
