This slow cooker apple crisp features tart apples topped with a crunchy oat mixture, making it a cozy dessert ideal for any gathering. Enjoy it warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a delightful treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the apples thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or wax.
  2. Peel the apples using a vegetable peeler.
  3. Core the apples and cut them into thin slices, about 1/4-inch thick.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss until well coated.
  5. In another bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, melted butter, and chopped nuts. Add raisins if using.
  6. Mix until the oats are evenly coated and the mixture is crumbly but holds together when pressed.
  7. Grease the slow cooker insert with butter or cooking spray.
  8. Layer the apple mixture evenly at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  9. Sprinkle the oat topping mixture over the apples, breaking up any large clumps.
  10. Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 4 to 6 hours. Check around the 4-hour mark.
  11. During the last hour, remove the lid to allow moisture to evaporate for a thicker consistency.
  12. Once the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown, it’s ready to serve.
  13. Scoop portions into bowls and serve warm or at room temperature.
  14. Top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, and drizzle with caramel sauce or sprinkle extra nuts if desired.
  15. Let the dessert cool completely before transferring to an airtight container.
  16. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  17. For breakfast, serve over yogurt or with a splash of milk.

Notes

  • Feel free to mix and match apple varieties for a more complex flavor.
  • A splash of vanilla extract can enhance the flavor of the apple mixture.
