Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups red wine
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup simple syrup
- 1/4 cup brandy
- 1 cup mixed fresh fruit (such as oranges, lemons, limes, and berries)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the red wine, orange juice, simple syrup, and brandy. Stir gently to mix all the ingredients together.
- Add the diced mixed fresh fruit into the sangria mixture. Stir to ensure the fruit is well coated in the liquid.
- Add the tablespoon of lemon juice to brighten up the flavors and give everything a good stir.
- Pour the sangria mixture into a shallow baking dish (a metal dish works best).
- Place the baking dish in the freezer and allow it to freeze for about 1 hour.
- After an hour, take the dish out of the freezer and use a fork to scrape the mixture, breaking up any ice crystals that have formed.
- Return the dish to the freezer and repeat the scraping process every 30 minutes for about 3-4 hours, or until the granita is fully frozen and fluffy.
- Fluff the granita one last time with a fork before serving.
- Scoop the granita into chilled dessert glasses or bowls, layering with extra diced fruit if desired.
- Garnish each serving with fresh mint leaves.
- Optionally, drizzle a little extra simple syrup or a splash of wine over the top before serving.
