Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ruby-red grapefruits
- 1/2 cup of vodka (or gin)
- 1/4 cup of simple syrup
- 1/4 cup of fresh lime juice
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish
- Salt or sugar for rimming the glasses (optional)
- Club soda (optional)
Instructions
- Cut the ruby-red grapefruits in half and extract the juice using a citrus juicer or reamer. Aim for about 1 cup of fresh grapefruit juice. Strain through a fine mesh sieve if you prefer a pulp-free drink.
- In a small saucepan, combine equal parts sugar and water (e.g., 1/4 cup of each). Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let cool. Store any leftover syrup in the fridge for up to a month.
- Squeeze fresh limes to obtain about 1/4 cup of lime juice.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine the grapefruit juice, vodka (or gin), simple syrup, and lime juice. Adjust the simple syrup to taste.
- Add ice cubes to the shaker, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
- Optionally, rim the glasses by running a lime wedge around the rim and dipping it into salt or sugar.
- Using a fine mesh strainer, pour the cocktail mixture into the prepared glasses filled with ice.
- Top off each glass with a splash of club soda for a fizzy touch.
- Add a sprig of fresh mint to each glass for garnish.
- Adjust sweetness with more simple syrup or balance with lime juice as needed.
- Enjoy your cocktail with friends or on your own!
- Feel free to add elderflower liqueur or muddle fresh berries for a twist.
