Description
A refreshing and creamy Orange Creamsicle Smoothie that tastes like a classic childhood treat! Made with fresh oranges, vanilla Greek yogurt, and a touch of honey, it’s a healthy and delicious way to start your day or enjoy as a snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large orange, peeled and segmented
- 1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt (full-fat or non-fat, your choice!)
- 1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy, like almond or oat milk)
- 1/4 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed is best!)
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup ice cubes (more or less, depending on desired thickness)
- Optional: Orange zest for garnish
- Optional: Whipped cream for topping
Instructions
- Prepare the Orange: Peel the orange and separate it into segments, removing any seeds or tough membranes. If using fresh orange juice, juice the remaining scraps.
- Combine Ingredients: In a blender, combine orange segments, vanilla Greek yogurt, milk, orange juice, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract. Add liquids first.
- Add Ice: Add ice cubes. Start with 1 cup and add more for a thicker smoothie.
- Blend Until Smooth: Secure the lid and blend on high speed until smooth and creamy (30-60 seconds). Scrape down sides if needed.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste and adjust sweetness with honey/maple syrup, thickness with milk, or orange flavor with orange juice/segments.
- Pour and Garnish: Pour into a glass. Garnish with orange zest and/or whipped cream, if desired.
- Serve Immediately: Enjoy immediately while cold and creamy.
Notes
- For a thicker smoothie, freeze orange segments for at least 30 minutes before blending.
- Add a scoop of vanilla protein powder or a tablespoon of chia seeds or flax seeds for added protein.
- To make this smoothie vegan, use a plant-based vanilla yogurt (like coconut or almond yogurt) and a plant-based milk (like almond, oat, or soy milk). You can also use agave nectar instead of honey.
- Sneak in some extra nutrients by adding a handful of spinach or kale.
- Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for a warm and cozy twist.
- Experiment with other citrus fruits like tangerines, clementines, or grapefruit.
- Add a few chunks of pineapple or mango for a tropical flavor.
- For an adult version, add a shot of orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Grand Marnier) or vodka.
