Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups chocolate wafer crumbs (about 36 wafers)
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 16 ounces (2 cups) Nutella
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Whipped cream
- Chopped hazelnuts
- Chocolate shavings
Instructions
- Crush the Chocolate Wafers: Crush the chocolate wafers into fine crumbs using a food processor or by placing them in a zip-top bag and crushing with a rolling pin.
- Combine with Sugar and Salt: In a medium bowl, combine the chocolate wafer crumbs, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well.
- Add Melted Butter: Pour the melted butter into the bowl and mix until the crumbs are evenly moistened and resemble wet sand.
- Press into Pie Plate: Transfer the crumb mixture to a 9-inch pie plate. Press firmly and evenly across the bottom and up the sides of the pie plate.
- Chill the Crust: Cover the crust with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Soften Cream Cheese: Ensure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature.
- Beat Cream Cheese: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
- Add Nutella: Add the Nutella to the bowl with the cream cheese. Beat until fully incorporated and smooth.
- Whip Heavy Cream: In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Fold in Whipped Cream: Gently fold the whipped cream into the Nutella mixture in two or three additions until just combined.
- Add a Pinch of Salt: Stir in a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors of the filling.
- Pour Filling into Crust: Remove the chilled crust from the refrigerator. Pour the Nutella filling into the crust, spreading it evenly.
- Chill the Pie: Cover the pie with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
- Garnish (Optional): Before serving, garnish with whipped cream, chopped hazelnuts, and chocolate shavings.
- Slice and Serve: Slice into wedges and serve.
Notes
- Use high-quality Nutella for the best flavor.
- Don’t overmix the filling to avoid a dense texture.
- Chilling the pie thoroughly is essential for the filling to set properly.
- Get creative with garnishes to customize your pie.
- For a Peanut Butter Nutella Pie, add a layer of peanut butter to the bottom of the crust before adding the Nutella filling.
- For a Chocolate Chip Nutella Pie, fold in some mini chocolate chips into the Nutella filling for added texture and flavor.
- For an Espresso Nutella Pie, add a teaspoon of instant espresso powder to the Nutella filling for a coffee-flavored kick.
