Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons)
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 4 cups of cold water
- 2 tablespoons of matcha green tea powder
- 1 cup of hot water (not boiling)
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
- Thin lemon slices for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Start by squeezing the lemons to get 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. Rolling the lemons on the counter before cutting helps release more juice.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 cup of granulated sugar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar completely dissolves (about 3-5 minutes). Do not let it boil.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Add 4 cups of cold water to the lemon-sugar mixture and stir well to combine. This is your refreshing lemonade base!
- In a small bowl, add 2 tablespoons of matcha green tea powder. Use high-quality matcha for the best flavor and color.
- Pour 1 cup of hot water (not boiling) over the matcha powder. Whisk vigorously until frothy and smooth (about 1-2 minutes). A milk frother or blender can also be used.
- Set the matcha aside to cool slightly until it reaches room temperature.
- Fill clear glasses with ice cubes, about halfway full.
- Slowly pour the lemonade base over the ice cubes, gently down the side of the glass or over the back of a spoon to create a layered effect.
- Carefully pour the prepared matcha over the lemonade layer, using the same technique to maintain the separation of layers.
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves and thin lemon slices on the rim of the glass for an extra touch.
Notes
- Ensure your matcha is fresh for the best color and flavor.
- Adjust the sweetness of the lemonade to your preference.
- Increase matcha powder for a more intense flavor, adjusting water accordingly.
- Try different sweeteners like honey or agave syrup for a unique twist.
