  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This Layered Matcha Lemonade is a refreshing drink that beautifully combines zesty lemon juice with rich matcha green tea. Perfect for hot days, it offers a visually stunning presentation and a delightful mix of flavors, making it an ideal thirst-quencher for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 46 lemons)
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 4 cups of cold water
  • 2 tablespoons of matcha green tea powder
  • 1 cup of hot water (not boiling)
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
  • Thin lemon slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by squeezing the lemons to get 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. Rolling the lemons on the counter before cutting helps release more juice.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 cup of granulated sugar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar completely dissolves (about 3-5 minutes). Do not let it boil.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  4. Add 4 cups of cold water to the lemon-sugar mixture and stir well to combine. This is your refreshing lemonade base!
  5. In a small bowl, add 2 tablespoons of matcha green tea powder. Use high-quality matcha for the best flavor and color.
  6. Pour 1 cup of hot water (not boiling) over the matcha powder. Whisk vigorously until frothy and smooth (about 1-2 minutes). A milk frother or blender can also be used.
  7. Set the matcha aside to cool slightly until it reaches room temperature.
  8. Fill clear glasses with ice cubes, about halfway full.
  9. Slowly pour the lemonade base over the ice cubes, gently down the side of the glass or over the back of a spoon to create a layered effect.
  10. Carefully pour the prepared matcha over the lemonade layer, using the same technique to maintain the separation of layers.
  11. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and thin lemon slices on the rim of the glass for an extra touch.

Notes

  • Ensure your matcha is fresh for the best color and flavor.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the lemonade to your preference.
  • Increase matcha powder for a more intense flavor, adjusting water accordingly.
  • Try different sweeteners like honey or agave syrup for a unique twist.
