Description
This refreshing Indian yogurt drink, Lassi, blends creamy yogurt with spices and sweetness, making it an ideal complement to spicy dishes or a cool snack on warm days.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups plain yogurt
- 1 cup cold water
- 1–2 tablespoons sugar or honey
- 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black salt
- Fresh mint leaves
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredients on the countertop for a smoother process.
- In a large mixing bowl, add the 2 cups of plain yogurt. Whole milk yogurt is recommended for a richer texture.
- Using a whisk or hand blender, beat the yogurt until smooth and creamy, eliminating any lumps.
- Gradually add 1 cup of cold water to the yogurt, whisking until well combined and pourable. Adjust water for desired consistency.
- Sweeten the drink by adding 1-2 tablespoons of sugar or honey, adjusting to taste.
- Sprinkle in 1/2 teaspoon of roasted cumin powder for an earthy flavor. If unavailable, roast cumin seeds and grind them.
- Add 1/4 teaspoon of black salt for a unique taste. Regular salt can be used as a substitute.
- Whisk until the sugar is dissolved and all ingredients are well incorporated. Taste and adjust sweetness or saltiness as needed.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer to a pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill.
- After chilling, stir the yogurt drink. If too thick, add more cold water to reach desired consistency.
- To serve, fill a glass with ice cubes if desired. Pour the chilled yogurt mixture over the ice.
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves for a pop of color and refreshing aroma.
Notes
- For flavor variations, consider adding a pinch of cardamom powder or a few drops of rose water.
- For a fruitier version, blend in fresh fruits like mango, banana, or berries before chilling.
- This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled for larger gatherings; just adjust seasoning accordingly.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within 2-3 days. Stir before serving as it may separate.
