  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This Honey Ginger Chicken features tender grilled chicken marinated in a sweet and savory honey-soy sauce with fresh ginger and garlic. It’s a quick and impressive dish perfect for weeknight dinners or gatherings, served with a drizzle of sauce and garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Whisk until well blended.
  2. Place chicken breasts in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring each piece is well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish with plastic wrap.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 2-4 hours for enhanced flavor. Turn the bag occasionally for even marination.
  4. Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat. Ensure the grill is clean and lightly oiled.
  5. Remove chicken from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Discard the leftover marinade.
  6. Grill chicken breasts for about 6-7 minutes on one side without moving them for grill marks.
  7. Flip and cook for another 6-7 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Cut into the thickest part to check doneness.
  8. Remove from grill and let rest for 5 minutes to redistribute juices.
  9. If desired, prepare a sauce using reserved marinade (if set aside before marinating). In a small saucepan, bring it to a boil over medium heat.
  10. Reduce heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened.
  11. Slice grilled chicken into strips or serve whole.
  12. Drizzle with sauce if prepared, or serve as is.
  13. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
  14. Pair with steamed rice or quinoa and sautéed vegetables or salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider adding a splash of orange juice or zest to the marinade.
  • A few drops of liquid smoke can provide a smoky flavor; use sparingly.
  • For a vegetarian option, substitute chicken with firm tofu, marinating and grilling as directed.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently.
