Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Whisk until well blended.
- Place chicken breasts in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring each piece is well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish with plastic wrap.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 2-4 hours for enhanced flavor. Turn the bag occasionally for even marination.
- Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat. Ensure the grill is clean and lightly oiled.
- Remove chicken from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Discard the leftover marinade.
- Grill chicken breasts for about 6-7 minutes on one side without moving them for grill marks.
- Flip and cook for another 6-7 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Cut into the thickest part to check doneness.
- Remove from grill and let rest for 5 minutes to redistribute juices.
- If desired, prepare a sauce using reserved marinade (if set aside before marinating). In a small saucepan, bring it to a boil over medium heat.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Slice grilled chicken into strips or serve whole.
- Drizzle with sauce if prepared, or serve as is.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
- Pair with steamed rice or quinoa and sautéed vegetables or salad for a complete meal.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider adding a splash of orange juice or zest to the marinade.
- A few drops of liquid smoke can provide a smoky flavor; use sparingly.
- For a vegetarian option, substitute chicken with firm tofu, marinating and grilling as directed.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently.
