  • 1 pound of fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the fresh mozzarella cheese into sticks, about 1/2 inch thick and 3-4 inches long. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Freeze the cheese sticks for about 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during frying.
  3. Prepare your breading station with three shallow bowls:
    • In the first bowl, add 1 cup of all-purpose flour.
    • In the second bowl, whisk together 2 large eggs.
    • In the third bowl, combine 1 cup of breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  4. Remove the cheese sticks from the freezer. Roll each stick in flour, dip in the egg wash, and then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. Return the breaded cheese sticks to the freezer for another 15-20 minutes.
  6. In a large skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry the cheese sticks in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Use a slotted spoon to remove the mozzarella sticks and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Let cool for a minute before serving. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy!
