Description
Enjoy the warm, comforting flavors of fall with this homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte. Made with creamy almond milk, pumpkin puree, and a touch of maple syrup, this healthier version is perfect for chilly mornings or a sweet afternoon treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
- 1/2 cup brewed coffee (strong)
- 1/4 cup pumpkin puree (canned or fresh)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
- Extra pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the pumpkin puree, maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). Stir well to combine all the ingredients into a smooth mixture.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Gradually add the almond milk while continuously stirring to incorporate the pumpkin mixture into the milk without lumps.
- Continue to heat the mixture until it is warm but not boiling, achieving a nice steaming temperature to blend the flavors.
- Once warm, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- While the pumpkin mixture is heating, brew your coffee using a strong method (French press, drip coffee maker, or espresso machine).
- For a coffee maker, use about 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds for every 6 ounces of water for a robust flavor.
- Set the brewed coffee aside.
- In a large mug, pour in the brewed coffee, adjusting the amount based on your desired strength.
- Carefully pour the warm pumpkin spice mixture over the coffee, using a spoon to hold back the foam if desired.
- Stir gently to combine.
- If you want a frothy texture, froth the almond milk before adding it to the coffee using a milk frother, French press, or whisk.
- For a milk frother, follow the manufacturers instructions. For a French press, pump the plunger up and down until frothy. For a whisk, vigorously whisk until frothy.
- Add the frothed milk on top of the combined coffee and pumpkin mixture.
- Optionally, add a dollop of whipped cream for indulgence.
- Sprinkle extra pumpkin pie spice or ground cinnamon on top for garnish.
- Serve immediately while warm, perfect for cozy mornings or as an afternoon pick-me-up.
- Keep the pumpkin spice mixture warm on the stove if making multiple servings, brewing fresh coffee as needed.
- Pairs wonderfully with a slice of pumpkin bread.
Notes
- Adjust the sweetness of the latte by varying the amount of maple syrup.
- For a dairy-free option, stick with almond milk or any plant-based milk of your choice.
