Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Lemon wedges, for serving
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Season the Shrimp: In a large bowl, season the shrimp with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Toss gently to coat and set aside.
- Set Up the Breading Station:
- In one shallow dish, add the all-purpose flour.
- In a second shallow dish, crack the eggs and whisk until combined.
- In a third shallow dish, mix panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Bread the Shrimp: Dredge each shrimp in flour, dip in the beaten eggs, and roll in the panko mixture. Place the breaded shrimp on a plate.
- Cook the Shrimp: In a large skillet, heat enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom by about 1/4 inch over medium-high heat. Test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it sizzles, its ready.
- Fry the Shrimp: Add the breaded shrimp in batches, frying for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Use tongs to flip them gently.
- Drain the Shrimp: Transfer the cooked shrimp to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Assemble and Serve: Arrange the shrimp on a serving platter, squeeze fresh lemon juice over them, and garnish with chopped parsley. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and your choice of dipping sauce.
Notes
- Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to achieve a crispy texture.
- Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain even cooking.
- For a healthier option, consider baking the shrimp at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
