Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Lemon wedges, for serving
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. Season the Shrimp: In a large bowl, season the shrimp with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Toss gently to coat and set aside.
  3. Set Up the Breading Station:
    • In one shallow dish, add the all-purpose flour.
    • In a second shallow dish, crack the eggs and whisk until combined.
    • In a third shallow dish, mix panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Bread the Shrimp: Dredge each shrimp in flour, dip in the beaten eggs, and roll in the panko mixture. Place the breaded shrimp on a plate.
  5. Cook the Shrimp: In a large skillet, heat enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom by about 1/4 inch over medium-high heat. Test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it sizzles, it’s ready.
  6. Fry the Shrimp: Add the breaded shrimp in batches, frying for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Use tongs to flip them gently.
  7. Drain the Shrimp: Transfer the cooked shrimp to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. Assemble and Serve: Arrange the shrimp on a serving platter, squeeze fresh lemon juice over them, and garnish with chopped parsley. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and your choice of dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to achieve a crispy texture.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain even cooking.
  • For a healthier option, consider baking the shrimp at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
