  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 170 minutes
  • Yield: 12 buns 1x

Description

Enjoy these soft and fluffy cream-filled buns, perfect for dessert or a sweet snack. Each bun is filled with rich whipped cream and dusted with powdered sugar, making them a delightful treat for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Optional: chocolate or caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Once the yeast is frothy, add the melted butter and eggs to the mixture. Whisk until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula until a dough begins to form.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Transfer it back to a floured surface.
  7. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, ensuring they are smooth and round.
  8. Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each one. Cover them with a kitchen towel and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes, or until they puff up.
  9. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Once the buns have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
  11. Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
  12. While the buns are cooling, pour the heavy whipping cream into a mixing bowl.
  13. Using an electric mixer, beat the cream on medium speed until it starts to thicken.
  14. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  15. Once the buns are completely cool, carefully slice each bun in half horizontally to create a pocket for the cream filling.
  16. Using a piping bag or a spoon, generously fill the bottom half of each bun with the whipped cream.
  17. Place the top half of the bun back on and gently press down to secure the filling.
  18. Dust the tops of the filled buns with powdered sugar for a lovely presentation.
  19. Optionally, drizzle some chocolate or caramel sauce over the top for added sweetness.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not too hot, as high temperatures can kill the yeast.
  • For best results, allow the buns to cool completely before filling to prevent the cream from melting.
