Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds country-style pork ribs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the country-style ribs under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. In a large bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  3. Rub the spice mixture all over the ribs, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  4. Let the ribs sit for about 30 minutes at room temperature to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.
  5. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the seasoned ribs in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
  6. Transfer the seared ribs to the slow cooker and sprinkle any leftover spice mix over them.
  7. In a separate bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar.
  8. Pour the sauce mixture over the ribs in the slow cooker, ensuring they are well coated.
  9. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours until tender.
  10. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  11. After searing the ribs, place them in a large baking dish or roasting pan.
  12. Mix barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar in a bowl.
  13. Pour the sauce over the ribs, ensuring they are well coated.
  14. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 2.5 to 3 hours until tender.
  15. Preheat your grill to medium heat.
  16. After searing the ribs, place them on the grill using indirect heat.
  17. Brush the ribs with the barbecue sauce mixture, reserving some for later.
  18. Close the grill lid and cook for about 1.5 to 2 hours, turning occasionally and basting with reserved sauce until tender and charred.
  19. Once cooked, serve the ribs hot, garnished with fresh chopped parsley.

Notes

  • Adjust the cayenne pepper according to your heat preference.
  • For a homemade barbecue sauce, consider adding honey or mustard for extra flavor.
