  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 270 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Enjoy a silky-smooth Coffee Panna Cotta, a classic Italian dessert that blends creamy textures with rich coffee flavor. This elegant treat is easy to prepare and perfect for impressing guests at any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin powder
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • Pinch of salt
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir gently until the sugar has completely dissolved (about 3-5 minutes). Avoid boiling.
  2. Add the instant coffee granules and a pinch of salt to the mixture. Stir until the coffee is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin powder over the cold water and let it sit for about 5 minutes to bloom.
  5. Return the saucepan to low heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until completely dissolved (about 2-3 minutes). Do not boil.
  6. Allow the mixture to cool slightly for about 10 minutes.
  7. Carefully pour the mixture into individual serving glasses or ramekins, filling each about three-quarters full.
  8. Cover with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until set. For a quicker option, chill in the freezer for about 2 hours, monitoring closely.
  9. While chilling, prepare garnishes like chocolate shavings or cocoa powder. Use a vegetable peeler for chocolate shavings or have cocoa powder ready in a bowl.
  10. Once set, remove from the refrigerator. If sticking, run a small knife around the edge to release.
  11. For ramekins, dip the bottom in warm water for a few seconds, then invert onto a plate.
  12. Add garnishes: dollop whipped cream, sprinkle with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder, and drizzle with caramel or chocolate sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the gelatin is fully dissolved to achieve the perfect texture.
  • For a richer flavor, consider using espresso instead of instant coffee.
  • This dessert can be made a day in advance, making it a great option for entertaining.
