Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 slices of cinnamon swirl bread (or any bread of your choice)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for the glaze)
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese (softened, for the glaze)
- 1 tablespoon milk (for the glaze)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for the glaze)
- Optional: maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream for serving
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and whisk until smooth.
- Add 1 cup of whole milk to the eggs and mix well.
- Pour in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, followed by 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Whisk until combined and slightly frothy.
- Take your 8 slices of cinnamon swirl bread. Optionally, cut them into halves or quarters for easier handling.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, allowing it to melt.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides without soaking too long.
- Place the coated bread slices onto the skillet, cooking 3-4 slices at a time.
- Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
- Transfer the cooked French toast to a plate and keep warm in a low oven (around 200°F or 93°C) while cooking the remaining slices.
- In a small mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of softened cream cheese.
- Add 1 tablespoon of milk and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, whisking until smooth. Adjust consistency with more milk if needed.
- Stack 2-3 slices of French toast on each plate.
- Drizzle the cream cheese glaze generously over the top.
- Optionally, dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream.
Notes
- For best results, use slightly stale bread as it absorbs the batter better.
- Feel free to customize the toppings based on your preferences.
