Enjoy a delicious twist on breakfast with Cinnamon Roll French Toast, featuring cinnamon swirl bread soaked in a creamy egg mixture and topped with a rich cream cheese glaze. Perfect for brunch or special occasions, this dish brings warmth and sweetness to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 slices of cinnamon swirl bread (or any bread of your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for the glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese (softened, for the glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for the glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for the glaze)
  • Optional: maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and whisk until smooth.
  2. Add 1 cup of whole milk to the eggs and mix well.
  3. Pour in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, followed by 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Whisk until combined and slightly frothy.
  4. Take your 8 slices of cinnamon swirl bread. Optionally, cut them into halves or quarters for easier handling.
  5. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, allowing it to melt.
  6. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides without soaking too long.
  7. Place the coated bread slices onto the skillet, cooking 3-4 slices at a time.
  8. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  9. Transfer the cooked French toast to a plate and keep warm in a low oven (around 200°F or 93°C) while cooking the remaining slices.
  10. In a small mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of softened cream cheese.
  11. Add 1 tablespoon of milk and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, whisking until smooth. Adjust consistency with more milk if needed.
  12. Stack 2-3 slices of French toast on each plate.
  13. Drizzle the cream cheese glaze generously over the top.
  14. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For best results, use slightly stale bread as it absorbs the batter better.
  • Feel free to customize the toppings based on your preferences.
