Enjoy these delightful Cinnamon French Toast Sticks, made from thick bread soaked in a creamy custard and cooked to golden perfection. Perfect for dipping in maple syrup, they make a sweet addition to any breakfast or brunch spread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (whole or 2% for creaminess)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 slices of thick bread (such as brioche or Texas toast)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for cooking)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and whisk them until well beaten.
  2. Add 1 cup of milk to the eggs and whisk together until fully combined.
  3. Incorporate 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the mixture.
  4. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Whisk until smooth and well blended.
  5. Take 8 slices of thick bread and cut each slice into 3 equal strips, resulting in 24 bread sticks.
  6. Place the cut bread sticks on a baking sheet or a large plate.
  7. Dip each bread stick into the batter, coating each side thoroughly for about 10-15 seconds.
  8. Gently shake off any excess batter and place the soaked bread sticks on a clean plate or baking sheet.
  9. In a large skillet or griddle, heat 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat until melted and bubbly.
  10. Carefully place the soaked bread sticks in the skillet, cooking in batches if necessary.
  11. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes on the other side.
  12. Remove the cooked sticks and place them on a plate lined with paper towels. Keep warm in a preheated oven at 200°F (93°C) if cooking in batches.
  13. In a shallow dish, combine 1/4 cup of granulated sugar with an additional 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mix well.
  14. Roll each cooked French toast stick in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
  15. Arrange the cinnamon French toast sticks on a serving platter. Serve with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
