Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup toffee bits (such as Heath Bar bits)
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans recommended)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat, stirring occasionally. Once melted, remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar using a whisk.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Fold in the chocolate chips, toffee bits, and nuts (if using).
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Check for doneness at the 25-minute mark; a toothpick inserted should come out with a few moist crumbs.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before cutting.
- Cut into squares and serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate or caramel sauce.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Notes
- Use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate chips for the best flavor.
- Be careful not to overbake; the brownies will continue to cook slightly after being removed from the oven.
- For cleaner edges, let the brownies cool completely before cutting, though warm brownies are equally delicious!
