Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 medium head of Napa cabbage, chopped into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup shiitake mushrooms, sliced (or any mushrooms of your choice)
- 3 green onions, chopped (white and green parts separated)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- While the beef is marinating, chop the Napa cabbage, slice the red bell pepper, and prepare the shiitake mushrooms. Separate the white and green parts of the green onions.
- Heat a large wok or non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and swirl to coat the bottom.
- Add the marinated beef in a single layer. Sear for 2-3 minutes without stirring, then stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until cooked through. Remove the beef and set aside.
- In the same pan, add more oil if needed, then toss in the minced garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the sliced red bell pepper and shiitake mushrooms. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Add the chopped Napa cabbage and stir well. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until wilted but still crunchy.
- Return the beef to the pan. Add the white parts of the green onions, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil. Stir to combine and heat through for an additional 2 minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with more soy sauce, salt, or pepper as desired. Add red pepper flakes for heat if preferred.
- Remove from heat and sprinkle the green parts of the green onions on top. Serve hot over cooked rice or noodles, and drizzle with extra sesame oil or sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
- Slice the beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
- Avoid overcrowding the pan when cooking the beef; cook in batches if necessary.
- Customize the vegetables based on availability; broccoli, snap peas, or carrots are great alternatives.
