  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 60 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

These Apple Dumplings are a cozy dessert featuring tender apple wedges wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough, baked until golden, and topped with a sweet butter and Mountain Dew sauce. Perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 package of refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup of Mountain Dew (or any lemon-lime soda)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Optional: caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Wash and peel the apples using a vegetable peeler.
  3. Core the apples and cut each into 8 wedges.
  4. Open the crescent roll dough package and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes.
  5. Unroll the dough and separate it into 8 triangles.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  7. Take one apple wedge, sprinkle a teaspoon of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over it, and place it at the wide end of a crescent roll triangle.
  8. Roll the dough around the apple, starting from the wide end and tucking it in as you go. Repeat for all apple wedges.
  9. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  10. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture and vanilla extract.
  11. Gradually pour in the Mountain Dew, stirring continuously until combined.
  12. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and place the rolled dumplings seam-side down.
  13. Pour the butter and Mountain Dew mixture evenly over the dumplings.
  14. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and the apples are tender, basting halfway through.
  15. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  16. Transfer dumplings to plates and drizzle with remaining sauce. Optionally, add caramel sauce and serve warm, with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider mixing in chopped nuts with the cinnamon-sugar.
  • Substitute apples with pears or peaches for a different twist.
  • Adjust sugar levels for a less sweet version.
  • Experiment with spices like nutmeg or allspice for unique flavors.
  • Leftover dumplings can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
