Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 package of refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 cup of butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup of Mountain Dew (or any lemon-lime soda)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Optional: caramel sauce for drizzling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Wash and peel the apples using a vegetable peeler.
- Core the apples and cut each into 8 wedges.
- Open the crescent roll dough package and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes.
- Unroll the dough and separate it into 8 triangles.
- In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
- Take one apple wedge, sprinkle a teaspoon of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over it, and place it at the wide end of a crescent roll triangle.
- Roll the dough around the apple, starting from the wide end and tucking it in as you go. Repeat for all apple wedges.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Remove from heat and stir in the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture and vanilla extract.
- Gradually pour in the Mountain Dew, stirring continuously until combined.
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and place the rolled dumplings seam-side down.
- Pour the butter and Mountain Dew mixture evenly over the dumplings.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and the apples are tender, basting halfway through.
- Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
- Transfer dumplings to plates and drizzle with remaining sauce. Optionally, add caramel sauce and serve warm, with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider mixing in chopped nuts with the cinnamon-sugar.
- Substitute apples with pears or peaches for a different twist.
- Adjust sugar levels for a less sweet version.
